New Federal Baseball League's Rule 5 draft will be held today. General managers should ensure that they have made all necessary roster moves prior to the start of the draft!
Rule 5 Draft Rules
--Only teams with empty slots on their expanded rosters can select a player in the draft.
--Players with more than 3 years of professional experience are eligible to be selected, unless they are protected on a team's expanded roster.
--Players drafted at the age of 18 or younger are protected for one additional year. They are eligible if they have more than 4 years of professional service.
--Each selected player must be kept on the selecting team's major league roster for the entire year, or be returned to his original team.
--Even if a selected player is subsequently traded, he must remain on that team's major league roster for the entire year.

"I don't know if ownership will keep thinking like they have or not," said Philadelphia manager Andruw Jones. "The management group has always suggested we take a pick in the Rule 5 draft if our system allows it, and it wouldn't be out of the question for them to add another player this year." One might make a case that the Quakers shouldn't make a pick this year and that a farm system is in place already to offer up home-grown opportunities.
"We may have a hard time finding a spot," Jones continued, "We already have tough decisions to make with internal options. I say we, but I mean they. Maybe they'll decide to draft a bench player. The Rule 5 Draft is a free way to add talent. Not my decision, but it doesn't hurt to at least take a look at a player, even if he doesn't make it out of Spring Training." |

Speculation has it that Hollywood and Mason Stanley are trying to flesh out a contract agreement that would bring the 27-year-old closer into the fold.
Stanley is reportedly going to pocket $2,280,000 over 1 year if things pan out.
