| Cortéz Helps Philadelphia Outscore Miami | The Philadelphia Quakers defeated the Miami X Giants, 17-10, in Gehrig League action at Elian Gonzalez Field, with Philadelphia left fielder Félix Cortéz named player of the game. Every game is important, even these early ones, if the Quakers hope to make a postseason run.
The Quakers got a big at-bat from right fielder Sergio Portillo. For the game, Portillo went 2-6 with 2 doubles. He drove in 6 runs and scored once. In the top of the sixth, with the bases loaded, he stroked a bases-clearing double. His 7th double of the season gave Philadelphia a 6-3 lead.
"Winning the game is always the first objective," Cortéz said.
