| Redbirds Clip Stars in Tight Contest | The Hollywood Stars got a sterling performance from pitcher Julián Garza, but the Redbirds still prevailed, 3-2. Garza was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He threw 7 innings of 6-hit ball. The win was credited to Steve Hargrove in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Juan Díaz took the loss. Every game is important, even these early ones, if the Redbirds hope to make a postseason run.
Had Perry Doyle not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 1st, Doyle hit a 2-run home run. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Redbirds.
"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Doyle told the Rochester Herald.
