Oaks Come Up Short at Chicago
In a close game at Wrigley Field, the Chicago Whales edged the Oakland Oaks, 3-2. Chicago catcher Ray Ash earned the nod as player of the game. He was 3 for 4 with a home run and a double, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Chicago is 14-19 and Oakland, with the loss, 16-14.

Jeff Labbee drove in one run for Chicago. The 25-year old first baseman had a key at-bat in the bottom of the seventh. With one out and a runner on 3rd, he broke a 2-2 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Adrian Dunn. It was his 7th RBI of the season.

"We had the game right there for the taking," said Oakland manager Kenny Lafrenière. "But we decided not to take it."
