González 3-4, Redbirds Move to 31-17

A nice crowd turned out to see the Rochester Redbirds and Boston Beaneaters clash at South End Grounds.

The Rochester Redbirds beat the Boston Beaneaters, 11-5, at South End Grounds. The Redbirds got a fine performance from center fielder Manuel González, who captured player of the game honors. He went 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. Rochester reliever Brent Singleton was the winner. His record is now 1-1. The losing pitcher was Wes Johnson.

Orlando Ruíz aided the Rochester cause with a bases-clearing double in the top of the seventh. For the game, the right fielder went 1-5 with a double, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once.

Ruíz told the Rochester Herald: "I was born for the big stage."

Rochester is now 31-17, 7 games up in the Division 1.
