Despite a fine performance by first baseman Clayton Cole, the Philadelphia Quakers suffered a 6-5 loss to the Rochester Redbirds. Cole went 3 for 4 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 runs. Rochester reliever Steve Hargrove was credited with the win, to go to 3-0. Jesse Boone took the loss for Philadelphia. Oscar Gimenez converted his 20th save in 25 tries.

Perry Doyle's hit in the top of the ninth was a game-changer. With two out, he rapped a curveball from Jesse Boone for a bases-clearing double. It put Rochester in front, 6-4.

"One win at a time, one game at a time. We try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," Doyle told the Rochester Herald.

Rochester improves to 40-24 with the win. They lead their division by 10½ games.
