| Beaneaters Continue Skid Thanks to Portillo, Quakers | Getting a good performance from right fielder Sergio Portillo, the Philadelphia Quakers defeated the Boston Beaneaters, 6-4. Portillo was 4-4 with a home run, 3 singles, and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once for the Quakers. Jacob White earned the win for Philadelphia. He lasted 6 innings, allowing 4 earned runs on 9 hits, while striking out 2. With the win, he raised his record to 10-2. Jesse Boone converted his 22nd save in 32 tries.
Jorge Méndez, who is tied for 6th in the GL with a .331 batting average, helped out the Philadelphia cause in the top of the first inning with a 2-run single. For the game, the second baseman went 3-5 with 3 singles. He drove in 2 runs.
"We took advantage of our opportunities," Portillo told the Philadelphia Gazette. "It's as simple as that."
