| Late Rally by Spiders Secures Win | The Cleveland Spiders beat the Chicago Whales, 5-1, at Sockalexis Stadium. Cleveland left fielder Jeremy Beasley earned player of the game honors with an outstanding performance. He was 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Chicago is in the throes of a 9-game skid.
Beasley had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the eighth. On a 2-2 cutter from Adrián Fabián, he banged a grand slam home run to left, giving the Spiders a 5-1 lead. It was the 28th home run of the year for Beasley.
"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said Cleveland skipper Jim Bauch.
