| Multi-HR Day for Dean as Pilots Overpower Oaks, 5-3 | Monster Park was the site of a competitive game between the Oakland Oaks and Seattle Pilots.
Seattle right fielder John Dean was instrumental in his team's 5-3 win over the Oakland Oaks. Dean, who is a five-time All-Star, went 2-4 with 2 runs scored to lead the offensive attack for the Pilots. Ian Black, who went 6 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 2 runs on 7 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 6. His record now stands at 8-3.
Dean contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for Seattle in the top of the fourth. With his team trailing 2-0, Dean took a fastball from Benoît Beaudry and stroked the home run to right. His 31st home run of the season allowed the Pilots to leap in front, 3-2.
After the game, Dean refused to speak to a reporter for the Seattle News. "You've accused me of throwing teammates under the bus," he said. "So, excuse me if I decline to answer your questions."
Seattle, now 65-78, holds 5th place in the Division 1.
