| Spiders Lose 3-2 Decision to Superbas | The Cleveland Spiders went down to defeat to Greg Wade and his Brooklyn teammates. The final score was 3-2 in favor of the Superbas. Wade got the win, improving to 8-14. He allowed 6 hits and walked 1 over 6 innings. Wade allowed 1 earned run. Dan Westberry converted his 35th save in 40 tries.
Chris Howell had a big run-scoring single for the Superbas in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Brooklyn leading 2-1 and the bases loaded, he got a changeup from Claude Mosley and stroked the single to center. It was his 84th hit of the season, and more importantly, it put the Superbas ahead, 3-1.
Howell told a Brooklyn Chronicle reporter that he was "more than satisfied" with the win.
The last-place Superbas lifted their record to 63-81.
