| Whales Need Extra Frames to Get Past Redbirds | Fans who congregated at Rochester Stadium were treated to extra-inning drama.
The Chicago Whales took Rochester pitcher Bob Craig's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Rochester Stadium. The final score had Chicago getting past the Redbirds, 4-0. Craig went 7 innings and allowed no earned runs, striking out 6. Chicago reliever Millard Taylor was the winner. His record is now 4-2. Eddie Kern took the loss.
It could have been a different outcome for Chicago, had it not been for Dominic Phipps, the 29-year old second baseman . Phipps contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the 12th inning to put Chicago up, 2-0.
"Big win," said Phipps.
With the win, Chicago goes to 61-84, while the Redbirds fall to 79-67.
