| Beaneaters Come Up Short at Chicago | Chicago pitcher Denny Johnston did his part in helping his team beat the Boston Beaneaters, 4-3. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Eric Mathis was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 1 of 2 save opportunities. The Whales now own a record of 36-59.
The Whales got a big at-bat from pinch hitter Mark Merrit. For the game, Merrit was 1 for 1. In the bottom of the sixth, with runners on 2nd and 3rd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 60th hit of the season gave Chicago a 4-3 lead.
"Nice to see our side come away with the win," Johnston said after the game.
