| Beaneaters Jolt Stars with Late Rally | The Boston Beaneaters took Hollywood pitcher Ángel Deleón's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Gilmore Field. The final score had Boston getting past the Stars, 3-2. Deleón went 6 innings and allowed 1 earned run, striking out 2. Boston reliever Pat Bates picked up the win, bumping his record to 4-3. Nelson Curry was collared with the loss. Rick Gates earned save number 23.
The Beaneaters got a big at-bat from second baseman Jorge Marés. For the game, Marés went 1 for 4 with a double, while adding 2 RBI. In the top of the ninth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 1st double of the season gave Boston a 3-2 lead.
Hollywood manager Drees van Straaten said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
The win boosts the Beaneaters to 55-60. The loss puts the Stars at 55-60.
