| Beaneaters Win at Cleveland, 5-2 | Cleveland got a terrific game from catcher Norishige Mizutani. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Boston, 5-2. Mizutani was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He was 2-4 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 runs. Rick Gates earned his 25th save in 28 chances. The Beaneaters now have a record of 57-63.
The Beaneaters got a big at-bat from center fielder Wilfred Richter. For the game, Richter went 1-4. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the top of the fifth, with the bases loaded, he stroked a 2-run single. His 45th hit of the season gave Boston a 2-1 lead.
"Winning the game is always the first objective," Richter said.
