| Brian Ewing Blanks Miami | It wasn't easy but the Cleveland Spiders made it look that way.
Starter Brian Ewing shut out the Miami X Giants despite having what he later called "sub-par" stuff, and the Cleveland Spiders cruised to victory, 3-0. Ewing allowed only 3 hits and rang up 10 strikeouts but insisted later that he did not deserve primary credit for the win.
"It didn't feel quite right today, but I got a lot of help to get through," he said. "I trusted my catcher and the guys behind me bailed me out more than once when I screwed up."
Ewing has made 32 starts this season, posting 13 wins and 11 losses. Opposing clubs are batting .265 against him and he has 195 strikeouts in 197.2 innings with a 4.14 ERA. |
