Quakers Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Beaneaters
|
The Philadelphia Quakers beat the Boston Beaneaters, 7-5, at Myers Field. The Quakers got a fine performance from shortstop Jack Thompson, who captured player of the game honors. He went 3-4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. The win gives Philadelphia a record of 16-15.
Thompson had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the ninth. On a full count fastball from Will White, he banged a 2-run home run to center, giving the Quakers a 7-5 lead. It was the 6th home run of the year for Thompson.
"It wasn't our best performance," said Thompson, "but a win in this league is nothing to sniff at."
