|
The Brooklyn Superbas relied on the hitting of right fielder John Dean to stop the Seattle Pilots, 5-4. For the game, Dean was 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 doubles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Juan Machado got the win, improving to 5-5. He held the Pilots to 1 earned run on 2 hits over 5.2 innings, while striking out 4 and walking 4. Jerry Henderson converted his 16th save in 21 tries.
Mike Sullivan, who is tied for 7th in the GL in stolen bases with 12, aided the Brooklyn cause with a run-scoring walk in the bottom of the sixth. For the game, the left fielder went 2-4 with 2 singles and a walk.
Dean told the Brooklyn News: "Don't care what other people think. John knows who John is."
Brooklyn now sits in 4th place in the Division 1 at 28-39.
