Ruíz Hits 3 home runs in Quakers Win
|
The Philadelphia Quakers downed the Cleveland Spiders, 8-4, at Sockalexis Stadium. The Quakers were led by Javier Ruíz, who captured player of the game honors. He hit 3 home runs, while scoring 4 times and driving in 4. Philadelphia reliever Rubén Martínez got the win, raising his record to 1-1. Júlio Pagán was tagged with the loss. Philadelphia, now 3-2, has gotten their season off to a good start.
Had Felipe Planellas not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 1st, Planellas hit a 2-run home run. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Quakers.
"It was a solid team effort," said Planellas after the game.
