Spiders RF Meehan goes 3-for-3 in Win
|
The Cleveland Spiders topped the Oakland Oaks, 4-1, with right fielder Tim Meehan playing a big role. Meehan went 3 for 3 with a home run, 2 doubles, and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once for the Spiders in the win. Octávio Valdevez, who went 6 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 1 run on 6 hits, while walking 0 and striking out 2. His record now stands at 1-4. Even with the win, the Spiders have a dismal 17-40 record.
Meehan had an important at-bat with a runner on 1st in the top of the sixth, when he hit a 2-run home run. The Spiders went on to win.
"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said Cleveland skipper Jim Bauch.
