Ortíz, Rochester Start League Championship Series Strong with Home Win
The Rochester Redbirds started the League Championship Series in style today, downing the visiting St. Louis Perfectos at Rochester Stadium by a score of 7-4 to stake an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Redbirds catcher Raúl Ortíz was named player of the game after he was 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 5.

Nathaniel Burns, who won the Most Valuable Player Award in 2026, aided the Rochester cause with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the first. For the game, the first baseman was 1 for 4 with a home run and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.

"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Ortíz. "And not try to do too much."

Game 2 is set to be played tomorrow. The scheduled starters for the game are Manuel Morán for the St. Louis Perfectos and Matt Shaw for the the Rochester Redbirds.
