Spiders Top Quakers in Extras
|
Philadelphia got a terrific game from shortstop Jack Thompson. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Cleveland, 13-10. Thompson was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He was 2 for 5 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He drove in 6 runs and scored once. Cleveland reliever Ricardo Reyes was the winner. His record is now 4-3. Rick Jordan took the loss. John Elmore was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 1 of 1 save opportunities.
The Spiders got a big at-bat from catcher Norishige Mizutani. For the game, Mizutani was 1-2 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. In the top of the 11th, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 4th home run of the season gave Cleveland a 13-10 lead.
"We didn't go down without a fight," said Philadelphia manager Ken Samurakami.
Even with the win, the Spiders have a dismal 24-54 record.
