Quakers Squash Oaks, 13-1
|
The Philadelphia Quakers beat the Oakland Oaks, 13-1, at Monster Park. The win was largely due to the efforts of catcher Howard Lockhart, who captured player of the game honors. He went 2 for 4 with a home run and a walk. He scored 3 times and drove in 2. Denny Johnston earned the win for Philadelphia. He lasted 5 innings, allowing 1 earned run on 4 hits, while striking out 5. With the win, he raised his record to 2-6. Philadelphia, at 33-40, sits in third place in the Division 1.
Roberto Montoya, who is a two-time Gold Glove Award winner, aided the Philadelphia cause with a run-scoring walk in the top of the fourth. For the game, the center fielder was 1 for 3 with a double and 2 walks. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.
"Baseball is about momentum," said Lockhart, "and we feel we've got it in our favor after that win."
