Quakers Best Bayou Rats in Pitching Duel
|
Philadelphia beat Houston on the strength of starter Ernest Fountain's fine effort. The left-hander led his team to a 2-1 win. Fountain went 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 2, and struck out 3. His record improves to 3-2. Losses have been few and far between for the Bayou Rats, who are now 20-6.
Clayton Cole, who is tied for 2nd in the GL with a 1.076 OPS, aided the Philadelphia cause with a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the third. For the game, the first baseman was 1-3 with a walk.
In postgame comments to the Philadelphia Times, Fountain said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
